Unencumbered by wives, jobs or any other responsibilities, three senior citizens who've never really grown up explore their world in the Yorkshire Dales. They spend their days speculating about their fellow townsfolk and thinking up adventures not usually favored by the elderly.

Metropolitan Museum Cleveland Museum of Art. Internet Arcade Console Living Room. Books to Borrow Open Library. Discs are in PAL format. They play great using VLC or on a regionless player. I checked a few select episodes and, as far as I can tell, the episodes aren't edited like some of the syndicated versions are. I've not had time to go through it all, but I'm hoping that is a case throughout. Just started, however I noticed that the first episode edited quite a bit out of the beginning.
I am aware of this as I have recently seen this episode on Brit Box. Hoping this is not a common practice. Looking forward to seeing entire series. Although this is advertised as series , it really only contains series , as no series 32 ever existed. Arrived in excellent condition and within the time frame indicated on the order confirmation.
I had been wanting this series for a long time, but couldn't find it for sale here in the USA at a price I could live with. All the episodes are there along with the specials, and they are very good to excellent transfers depending on the age of the series.
Just be sure you have the proper equipment to view this series as it is region 2 encoded UK and in PAL video format. I love British sitcoms and sometimes this is the only available boxing of these DVDs. But, it wasn't long before there were no TV stations that carried the series anymore. I remembered how this show always had me laughing. It is the kind of show that you can watch after a miserable day of everything going wrong and within a few minutes you forget your day and are laughing at the antics of these guys.
I am so glad to find a collection of DVD's with the entire series. If you like British comedy, you owe it to your self to check this series out. You will need a region 2 DVD player or an all region player.
Play this on my region-free dvd player with no problems. The packaging makes the large number of discs fit in a compact space, and it was safely shipped without damage. See all reviews.
Top reviews from other countries. I received the boxset a day earlier than scheduled so was chuffed to bits. Cheers Amazon. It is a heavy box with 54 discs in it.
However it comes in a thin cardboard box with one of those flappy lids that tear when you try to open them from the top. Would have been better in a slide out box.
There are three DVD boxes with the first one holding series , the second has series , and the third contains One major let down down is that whilst the boxset comes from the BBC it doesn't go that extra mile and provide a booklet listing the episodes or even a synopsis of each episode.
This is a major oversight because given the history and heritage of the series you'd have expected something really special, added to the fact many stars who appeared in the series are no longer with us. I loved this series, its gentle humour, its farcical situations and the beautiful landscape. It's just ideal to put on and be reminded that even oldies can have fun. Absolutely brilliant. Just buy it, grab a cuppa and relax. Such as shame as it wouldn't be difficult to put them onto the disks in correct sequential order so you can watch them in sequence without having to mess about swapping disks.
Far from just being a series of gentle titters it has a considerable amount of belly laughs, and the humour, zany characterisation and outrageous antics are maintained throughout the show's entirety. This boxset has the lot: all the episodes including the pilot on the last disk , the Christmas specials interspaced throughout the running sequence and all the episodes.
However, that's all it has. I was a little disappointed that there were no extras. Considering that LOTSW was perhaps the world's longest running comedy and has won the hearts and following of thousands of fans I thought it would be better commemorated than this. Even just a few extras would have been welcome, but there's nothing of the sort here.
It's very much a bare bones production. Saying that, it's nice to have everything all together in the one place. However, the outer packaging is somewhat flimsy and soon shows signs of wear with repeated handling. At least the disks are contained in three reasonably sturdy plastic cases so can be left out while using them rather than being continually put in and taken out of the outer casing.
Also, I don't know what's gone wrong with the sequencing as the series are slightly out of order with what's printed on the disks, which isn't helped by the packaging stating there's thirty-two series when in fact only thirty one were ever made. This seems to be a careless oversight and should have been corrected before releasing the set.
I doubt this is the way the series have been produced. Everything considered, I feel this is a half-hearted affair -- enough to make the episodes available but that's all. However, if you can see past the shortcomings then there's hours and hours of first-rate comedy awaiting you. I watch at least two episodes a night and have been watching them for ages and am still immensely enjoying them.
The characters are warm, likeable and very funny, and there's sufficient variation in the plots to make them continually interesting and unexpected, with many surprises. There's so many classic moments here that it's hard to remember them all.
Think of the submarine episode, the waterskiing episode, the bath episode, the hang-gliding episode, the extraterrestrial episode or the mangle one -- they're all included. As such, because it was so close, some of the emotions portrayed by the cast were, according to producer Alan J W Bell, real ones.
LOTSW is all good clean family fun set in some of West Yorkshire's finest scenery which really comes into its own in when the picture quality is okay and we get a lot of gorgeous sweeping vistas in stunning colour, which greatly adds to the enjoyment and appeal of the show.
